Wednesday night January 1, 2025 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL 90.9 FMHD1 you’ll hear Emanuel Ax as the soloist in Mozart’s “25th Piano Concerto” with the NDR Radio Philharmonic led by Alan Gilbert. Also on the program Mahler’s “5th Symphony”.
Wednesday January 1, 2025 at 10:00 o’clock in the morning on WILL 90.9 FMHD1 we present a live holiday special: “New Year’s Day from Vienna”. Riccardo Muti leads the Vienna Philharmonic in famous and less-often-played waltzes, polkas, and other selections heard on a typical New Year’s Day concert.
Tuesday night December 31 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL 90.9 FMHD1 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”. We’ll take a musical look ahead past winter with Schumann’s “1st Symphony, the “Spring” Symphony and Mahler’s “Song of the Earth”.
Monday night December 30 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL 90.9 FMHD1 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”. You’ll hear famous compositions related to the theme of winter including Mozart’s “Sleigh Ride”, Vivaldi’s “Winter” Violin Concerto, and Bernard’s “Winter Wonderland” among others.
Sunday night December 29 at 6:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL 90.9 FMHD1 we pre-empt our regularly scheduled programs to bring you three Hannukah specials: “Candles Burning Brightly”, “A Chanukah Celebration with Chicago a capella” and “Sound the Shofar, an Ancient Instrument in Modern Times”.
Friday night December 27 at 7:00 on WILL 90.9 FMHD1 it’s “Early Music Now with Sara Schneider”. You'll hear a program titled “A Child is Born in Bethlehem”. Broadcasting this program on Friday’s at 7:00 PM gives us time to collect new local recordings for use on future “Prairie Performances”.
Thursday night December 26 at 7:00 on WILL 90.9 FMHD1 we pre-empt “The Sound of 13” to bring you a holiday special “The Sounds of Kwanzaa” hosted by Garrett McQueen. At 8:00 it’s “The Middle”: a weekly, non-partisan call-in talk show on politics.
Wednesday night December 25 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL 90.9 FMHD1 we pre-empt our regularly scheduled concert broadcast so we can bring you the annual Holiday Special: “A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols” recorded yesterday in Cambridge, England.
