The Evening Concert

Monday night May 15 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”. From the Philharmonic’s archives you’ll hear the Dvorak Cello Concerto with soloist Carter Brey. The program differs from the one listed in Patterns Magazine.  

Sunday night May 14 at 6:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 you’ll hear a Beethoven Piano Trio from Santa Fe, followed at 7:00 by Brahms’ “1st Piano Trio” from Lincoln Center and at 8:00 by Latin American cello music on “Fiesta”.

Friday night May 12 at 6:00 on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the second episode in a new series from the WFMT Radio Network called Gateways Radio. Garrett McQueen is your host. You’ll hear William Levi Dawson’s “Negro Folk Symphony” and Florence Price’s “Piano Sonata”.

Thiursday night May 11 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s a Deutsche Welle Festival Concert. You’ll hear pianist Alexander Melnikov as the soloist in Shostakovich’s “Concerto for Piano, Trumpet and Strings” and in Hindemith’s “The Four Temperaments”.

Wednesday night May 10 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the San Francisco Symphony. Guest conductor Ludovic Morlot leads the group in Ravel’s “Mother Goose Suite” and Timothy Higgins “Trombone Concerto”. Also on the program Copland’s “Appalachian Spring conducted by Music Director Laureate Michael Tilson Thomas.

Tuesday night May 9 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”. Anna Rakitina makes her CSO conducting debut. You’ll hear Tchaikovsky’s “Capriccio Italien” and selections from “The Nutcracker” as well as the “Roccoco Variations” with cello soloist Alicia Weilerstein.

Monday night May 8 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”. You’ll hear a concert from October 2022 with music by Marcos Balter, Tania Leon, John Adams, and Respighi, from the newly refurbished David Geffen Hall.

Sunday night May 7 starting at 6:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 you’ll hear Schubert’s “Quintet in C” from Santa Fe, followed at 7:00 by Barber’s “Cello Sonata” from Lincoln Center and at 8:00 by music of Mexican Composer Maria Granillo on “Fiesta”.

Friday night May 5 at 6:00 on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the first episode in a new series from the WFMT Radio Network called Gateways Radio. Garrett McQueen is your host. Tonight you’ll hear William Grant Still’s “Afro-American” Symphony and Cockerham’s “Fantasia on ‘Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing”.

Thursday night May 4 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s a Deutsche Welle Festival Concert. You’ll hear Bach’s “St. Matthew Passion” from last year’s Leipzig Bach Festival performed and recorded in the very church that Bach worked in, St. Thomas Church.
