The Evening Concert

Thursday night January 9 at 7:00 on WILL 90.9 FMHD1 you’ll hear "Classical Music" from the "Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival": David Popper’s “Requiem" and Beethoven’s “Op. 20 Septet".

Wednesday night January 8 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL 90.9 FMHD1 you’ll hear the first program in a new series from the Cleveland Orchestra. Music Director Franz Welser-Most is joined by the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus and vocal soloists in Mahler’s “2nd Symphony”, “Resurrection”.

Tuesday night January 7 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL 90.9 FMHD1 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”. You’ll hear Grieg’s Piano Concerto with soloist Simon Trpčeski. Xian Zhang (Shen Zhong) guest conducts. Also on the program Prokofiev’s “6th Symphony” and Nokuthula Ngwenyama’s “Primal Message”.

Monday night January 6 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL 90.9 FMHD1 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”. You’ll hear Copland’s “Suite from Appalachian Spring” and Gershwin’s “An American in Paris”. Also on the program Thomas Hampson sings selections from Copland’s “Old American Songs”.

Sunday night January 5 at 6:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL 90.9 FMHD1 you’ll hear Korngold’s “Piano Quintet” and Nino Rota’s “Clarinet Trio” on the “Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center”. At 7:00 o’clock you’ll hear music by Venezuelan composer Paul Desenne on Fiesta. Also to be heard at 8:00 as shown in Patterns Magazine as "Classical Music", chamber music from the "Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival".

Friday night January 3 at 7:00 on WILL 90.9 FMHD1 it’s “Early Music Now with Sara Schneider”. You'll hear a program titled “Utopia in Bruges” (Broozhe).  Broadcasting this program on Friday nights at 7:00 gives us time to collect new local recordings for use on future “Prairie Performances”. 

Thursday night January 2 at 7:00 on WILL 90.9 FMHD1 you’ll hear "Classical Music" from the "Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival": Halvorsen’s “Passacaglia on a Theme by Handel" and Tchaikovsky’s “Piano Trio in A Minor".

Wednesday night January 1, 2025 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL 90.9 FMHD1 you’ll hear Emanuel Ax as the soloist in Mozart’s “25th Piano Concerto” with the NDR Radio Philharmonic led by Alan Gilbert. Also on the program Mahler’s “5th Symphony”.

Wednesday January 1, 2025 at 10:00 o’clock in the morning on WILL 90.9 FMHD1 we present a live holiday special: “New Year’s Day from Vienna”. Riccardo Muti leads the Vienna Philharmonic in famous and less-often-played waltzes, polkas, and other selections heard on a typical New Year’s Day concert.

Tuesday night December 31 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL 90.9 FMHD1 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”. We’ll take a musical look ahead past winter with Schumann’s “1st Symphony, the “Spring” Symphony and Mahler’s “Song of the Earth”.
