The Evening Concert

Thursday night January 11 at 7:00 on WILL-FM 90.9 … it’s the second episode in a series that’s new-to-WILL: “The Sound of 13” hosted by Garrett McQueen”. It’s a program that examines the intersection of the 13th Amendment and classical music. At 8:00 it’s “The Middle”: a weekly, non-partisan call-in talk show on politics.  

Wednesday night January 10 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 the WFMT Orchestra Series continues with a concert by The Hallé Orchestra led by Sir Mark Elder. You’ll hear Maurice Ravel’s complete “Daphnis and Chloe” ballet score and Stravinsky’s “Violin Concerto”.

Tuesday night January 9 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”.  You’ll hear Wagner’s “Prelude to ‘Lohengrin’” and Richard Strauss’ “Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks”. Also on the program Bruckner’s “8th Symphony”.

Monday night January 8 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”. You’ll hear Debussy’s “Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun” and Florence Price’s “4th Symphony”. Also on the program Caroline Shaw’s “Microfictions, Vol. 3 featuring the vocal ensemble “Roomful of Teeth”.

Sunday night January 7 at 6:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 you’ll hear Mendelssohn’s “1st String Quartet” from Lincoln Center followed at 7:00 by “Choral Music of Latin America” on “Fiesta” and at 8:00 by another episode of “Gateways Radio”.

Wednesday night January 3 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 we continue the WFMT Orchestra series with a concert by Staatskapelle Dresden led by Christian Thielemann.  You’ll hear Weber’s “Jubilee Overture” and Richard Strauss’ “Suite from ‘Der Rosenkavalier’”.

Tusday night January 2 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”.  You’ll hear Dvorak’s “8th Symphony” led by guest conductor Herbert Blomstedt.  Also on the program Dvorak’s “Cello Concerto” featuring soloist Andrei Ioniță.

Monday night January 1 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 we pre-empt “The New York Philharmonic This Week” to bring you a holiday special “New Year’s Day from Vienna”. Christian Thielemann leads the Vienna Philharmonic in favorite waltzes, polkas, and other selections heard on a typical New Years Day concert.

Sunday night December 31 at 6:00 on WILL-FM 90.9 you’ll hear Baroque chamber music from Lincoln Center, then from 7:00 – 9:00 it’s the “Minnesota Orchestra New Year’s Celebration”, followed by “Jazz Night in America”, then NPR’s “Toast of the Nation” from 10:00 pm to 2:00 AM.  That’s our New Year’s Eve extended “Evening Concert” schedule.
