Tonight at 7:00 we’ll pre-empt “The New York Philharmonic This Week” so that we can bring you a simulcast of the Illinois Republican Gubernatorial Debate. Four of the Republican candidates for Governor of Illinois square off in a debate moderated by H. Wayne Wilson, host & producer of WTVP’s “At Issue”.

The Mozart Festival: Hours 1 & 2

Tonight it's the first of two specials from "The Mozart Festival." The first hour is devoted to Mozart's "Haffner" Symphony, with a performance by Camerata Salzburg, Louis Langree conducting. The second hour is devoted to Mozart's "Posthorn" Serenade. Gustavo Dudamel leads the Vienna Philharmonic in that work.

This week on the Evening Concert, we start Monday night at 7:00 with the first of two "Mozart Festival" programs; then Tuesday night Garrick Ohlsson plays Rachmaninoff's 3rd in Chicago; Wednesday it's Dvorak's 7th from Pittsburgh;

Thursday we'll pre-empt the New York Philharmonic for the IL Gubernatorial Debate and Friday...Prairie Performances with Roger Cooper.

Benjamin Britten – The Beauty of Loneliness and of Pain

Tonight at 7:00 on the "The Evening Concert" on WILL-FM we celebrate the centenary of Benjamin Britten's birth (which was Nov. 22 of last year) with a special program on the man who said that music "has the beauty of loneliness and of pain". There'll be excerpts from 'The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra" and other works.
