The Evening Concert

We hope that you’ve been enjoying our presentation of Gateways Radio hosted by Garrett McQueen Friday evenings on WILL-FM 90.9. Starting in August, Gateways Radio will be heard on Sunday evenings at 8:00 o’clock.

Thursday night August 3rd at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s “Carnegie Hall Live”.  You’ll hear an eclectic program of newer works like “Divided” by Jessie Montgomery, “Tracing Visions” by Valerie Coleman, and “An Ode to Our Times” by Xavier Foley”.

Wednesday night August 2nd at at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Recorded in March of this year you’ll hear Berlioz’s “Symphony fantastique”. Zubin Mehta conducts. Also on the program George Crumb’s song cycle “Ancient Voices of Children”.

Tuesday night August 1st at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”. You’ll hear Beethoven’s “7th Symphony”. Bernard Haitink guest conducts. Also on the program Brahms’ “2nd Symphony” and Weber’s Overture to “Der Freischutz”.

Monday night July 31 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”. From concerts recorded in 2015 you’ll hear soloist Anthony McGill play Nielsen’s “Clarinet Concerto”. Alan Gilbert conducts.  Also on the program Ravel’s “Noble and Sentimental Waltzes”.

Sunday night July 30 at 6:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 you’ll hear Messiaen’s “Quartet for the End of Time” from Santa Fe, followed at 7:00 by Shostakovich’s “Op. 57 Piano Quintet” from Lincoln Center and at 8:00 by “an Ideal Latin American Classical Music Concert” on “Fiesta”.

Friday night at 6:00 on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s Gateways Radio. Garrett McQueen is your host. You’ll hear Florence Price’s “2nd Violin Concerto” with soloist Er-Gene Kahng with the Janacek Philharmonic. Starting in August Gateways Radio will be heard Sunday evenings at 8:00 o’clock.

Thursday night July 27 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the fourth program from this year’s “Carnegie Hall Live” series. Kirill Petrenko leads the Berlin Philharmonic in Mahler’s monumental “7th Symphony”.  Also on the program the Brentano Quartet plays a string quartet by Haydn.

Wednesday night July 26 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the fourth program in a new series from the Los Angeles Philharmonic. You’ll hear Brahms’ “3rd Symphony” and Helen Grime’s “Meditation on Joy”. Otto Tausk guest conducts. Also on the program Bruch’s “1st Violin Concerto” with soloist Simone Lamsma.

Tuesday night July 25 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”. You’ll hear Rachmaninoff’s “Symphonic Dances”. Lahav Shani guest conducts. Also on the program Rachmaninoff’s “Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini”.
