This week on the Evening Concert it’s the annual “Bachfest Leipzig” from Deutsche Welle Radio, then ballet music of Stravinsky from the New York Philharmonic; Wednesday Joshua Bell is the soloist in Glazunov’s “Violin Concerto” with the San Francisco Symphony, followed by Nino Rota’s “Trombone Concerto” from our new series of Cleveland Orchestra broadcasts. Friday it’s "Prairie Performances with Roger Cooper".
Tonight at 7:00 on the Evening Concert we start a new series from the Cleveland Orchestra. Music Director Franz Welser-Most leads the group in Berlioz’ “ ‘Fantastic’ Symphony” and Hindemith’s Kammermusik No.1. Also on the program, Principal Oboist Frank Rosenwein is the soloist in Richard Strauss’ “Oboe Concerto”.
Tonight at 7:00 on The Evening Concert we start a new series from the San Francisco Symphony. Music Director Michael Tilson Thomas leads the orchestra in Brahms' "1st Symphony" and Beethoven’s “Leonore Overture No.3”. Also on the program, Yo-Yo Ma is the cellist in the Hindemith “Cello Concerto” by Hindemith.
Tonight at 7:00 on The Evening Concert Till Fellner is the soloist in Beethoven’s 1st Piano Concerto with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Manfred Honeck conducts. Also on the program, Dvorak’s "8th Symphony" and Haydn’s “Sinfonia Concertante in B-flat” featuring 4 “principal” players from the CSO. Even more from the program: Johann Strauss Jr.'s "Overture to 'Die Fledermaus'" and Beethoven's Overture to "Fidelio".
Tonight at 7:00 on the Evening Concert it’s “A Classical Labor Day” from Illinois Public Media. Join me, Vincent Trauth, for two hours of classical music from the Friends of WILL Music Library, including American patriotic selections like Copland’s “Fanfare for the Common Man” and pieces directly related to “work” of some kind, like Verdi’s “Anvil Chorus” and Mendelssohn’s “Venetian Gondola Songs”.

Tonight at 7:00 on The Evening Concert Carter Brey is the soloist in Dvorak's "Cello Concerto" with the New York Philharmonic. Alan Gilbert conducts. Also on the program, Tchaikovsky's "5th Symphony" and cellist Carter Brey completing the concert with Bach's "1st Suite for Unaccompanied Cello".
