The Evening Concert

Wednesday night October 8 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on “Illinois Classical” you’ll hear the first program in a new season from the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Zubin Mehta leads the group in Brahms’ “2nd Symphony”.  Also on the program Brahms’ “Violin Concerto” with soloist Leonidas Kavakos.

Tuesday night October 7 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on “Illinois Classical” it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”. Guest conductor Jaap van Zweden leads the CSO in Mahler’s “6th Symphony” from the 2025 Mahler Fest in Amsterdam.

Monday night October 6 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on “Illinois Classical” it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”. Music and Artistic Director Designate Gustavo Dudamel leads the Philharmonic in Mahler’s “7th Symphony” recorded this past May.

Sunday night October 5 at 6:00 on the “Evening Concert” on “Illinois Classical” you’ll hear an all-Mozart program on the “Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center”. At 7:00 you’ll hear “Romantic Music from Brazil and Mexico” on “Fiesta”.

Friday night October 3 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on “Illinois Classical” you’ll hear a program new to our schedule coming to us from the Heifetz International Music Institute in Staunton (STAN-tun), VA called “Heifetz On Air”. Tonight’s program features music by Bohemian composers.

Wednesday night October 1 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on “Illinois Classical” you’ll hear Edward Gardner conduct the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra in Berlioz’s “Symphonie fantastique”. Also on the program Bartok’s “2nd Violin Concerto” with soloist Christian Tetzlaff.

Sunday night September 14 at 6:00 on the “Evening Concert” on “W-I-L-L Classical” you’ll hear Arensky’s “Piano Trio No. 1” on the “Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center”. At 7:00 you’ll hear music by Baroque composers from Mexico, Spain, and Cuba on “Fiesta”.

Friday night September 12 at 7:00 on “W-I-L-L Classical” it’s “Gateways Radio”. You'll hear Duke Ellington’s “Black and Tan Fantasy”, Margaret Bonds’ “Montgomery Variations”, and the Traditional “I Want Jesus to Walk With Me”.  Also on the program music by Florence Price and Jonathan McNair. Loki Karuna hosts.

Wednesday night September 10 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on “W-I-L-L Classical” you’ll hear James Gaffigan conduct the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra in Dvorak’s “American Suite”, Gershwin’s “An American in Paris”, and Bernstein’s “Serenade after Plato’s ‘Symposium’”. 

Tuesday night September 9 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on “W-I-L-L Classical” it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”. CSO Principal Trumpet Esteban Batallán makes his solo debut with the group in trumpet concertos by Telemann and Michael Haydn. Also on the program Schubert’s “4th Symphony”.
