Arrest Made In Fatal Hit And Run Accident

UPDATE:  The Champaign County Coroner has identified the victim as 22-year old Anthony Pauls of Lake In The Hills, a Chicago suburb.

Urbana Police have arrested a Champaign resident in connection with a fatal hit and run accident.

The accident occurred late Friday night in the 200 block of West University Avenue in Urbana, near Leal Park and the intersection of Lake Street. The victim, a 22 year old male University of Illinois student, was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital, where he later died.

Police responded to a report of the victim around 11:50 PM Friday night.  Around the same time, an Urbana Police sergeant located a vehicle driving in the area with heavy damage. The sergeant stopped the vehicle, which was driven by 20 year old Albert Fleming of Champaign. Fleming was arrested jailed on preliminary charges of drunk driving, leaving the scene of an injurious or fatal accident, and other charges.
