Barbara Yates Remembered As First WGGP Director
A pioneer on the University of Illinois Urbana campus passed away last week. Barbara Yates was the first director of the Women and Gender in Global Perspectives program from 1980-1985.
The interdisciplinary WGGP program promotes the study of human development and gender equity in international settings, and currently offers a graduate minor in Gender Relations in International Development.
You may know Colleen Murphy from her role as a commentator for WILL’s “Legal Issues in the News.” She’s the current director of Women and Gender in Global Perspectives, and an associate professor of law, philosophy and political science at the U of I. She spoke with Illinois Public Media’s Brian Moline about the legacy of Barbara Yates, and her role in starting WGGP.
