Coroner Identifies Victim in Tuesday Night Shooting

Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup has identified the victim in Tuesday night's shooting in West Champaign. Northrup says 24-year old Stevie Blount Sr. died of multiple gunshot wounds.

Officers were called to Country Brook Apartments in the 2600 block of West Springfield Avenue shortly past 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Police say witnesses reported hearing several gunshots coming from the apartment complex, and that two black males were seen running across the street after shots were fired.

Blount was taken to Carle Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:12 p.m.  An autopsy was performed Tuesday, and Northrup says an inquest may be held at a later date.

No arrests have been made.  Anyone with information is asked to contact Champaign Police or Crimestoppers.
