Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner is expecting a new addition to his family. He and First Lady Diana Rauner expect to become first-time grandparents in a few weeks.

Rauner, 61, has six children, three of them with Diana, his second wife. All of his children are grown, so a grandchild was bound to come along at some point.

Still, the governor seemed caught off guard when reporters asked about it this week.

“Well, thanks,” Rauner said with a nervous laugh. “OK, I wasn’t going to talk about that, but I’m happy — you know what, we’re so excited, I’m sort of busting at the buttons.”

Rauner says he and the first lady will be traveling to the west coast to be with their daughter and her husband.

But that’s about all he’s saying. When asked whether the new baby would be a boy or girl, Rauner replied, “Uh, I’m not supposed to say”.

There has also been no immediate word on which of Rauner’s daughters is about to become a mother.
