Inmate Stabs Deputy, Is Shot In Return, At Vermilion County Courthouse
An inmate being moved between holding cells at the Vermilion County Courthouse in Danville was shot Friday morning, after he stabbed a sheriff's deputy several times in the face.
Vermilion County Sheriff Pat Hartshorn said in a news release that the incident happened shortly after ten AM. Both men were taken to OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center, but there was no immediate information about their conditions.
Also, Vermilion County officials had no immediate details about the inmate or why he stabbed the sheriff's deputy.
Officials say the Vermilion County Courthouse remained open after the incident, but was placed on lockdown, according to the News-Gazette.
Illinois State Police are investigating the incident, which is standard procedure for officer-involved shootings.
