One Hospitalized After Overnight Shooting in Champaign

Champaign Police are asking the public's help in identifying at least two men involved in a early morning shooting Sunday at a north side gas station.

Officers say just past 2:30 AM, they learned that a 22-year old male gunshot victim had been taken to Provena Covenant Medical Center.  His current condition is unknown.

Officers responded to a call at the Mobile Super Pantry at 1503 North Neil Street after hearing reports of multiple gunshots heard at the business, and several cars leaving the area.

Preliminary reports of the incident stemmed from a physical altercation that took place inside the business.  Shortly after leaving, the victim was apparently approached and shot by a second male who was not involved in the initial confrontation.

Police are currently conducting interviews in hopes of getting more information.  Anyone with more information is encouraged to contact Champaign Police at 351-4545 or Crimestoppers at 217-373-8477 (TIPS.)
