State Police Investigating I-74 Chase, Possible Firing of Weapon

 

Illinois State Police say four people are being questioned following a chase along Interstate 74 that involved a possible firing of a gun late Wednesday afternoon.

In a press release, state police said the invident involved the 'possible aggravated discharge of a firearm' on I-74 between Champaign-Urbana and Danville.

It occurred just before 5:30 p.m., when one of those involved called 9-1-1, stating he had just been robbed at gunpoint, then drove from the scene, and the suspects began chasing him in their vehicle on the interstate from Danville.

Troopers said they caught up with the vehicles near the University Avenue exit in Urbana, where the suspects left the highway. 

One of the vehicles was spotted in a nearby ditch – at University Avenue and Guardian Drive, where the occupants fled the vehicle on foot. 

Champaign and Urbana police found the two suspects in a nearby non-residential building, and took them into custody.

The other vehicle was located by multiple officers at a gas station in Mahomet along I-74.  They were detained pending further investigation by state police.
