  • Vaccine rollout has been frustrating for many people in the state’s Phase 1B who have had trouble getting appointments. In addition to seniors, that group also includes teachers.

  • Illinois state officials will face no criminal charges for mishandling multiple deadly Legionnaires’ disease outbreaks at a Quincy veterans' home.

  • The Illinois Department of Public Health expects to start sending out a larger number of first COVID vaccine doses come March, but that number will drop for a few weeks as more second doses are needed.

In today's deep dive, with tens of thousands of Americans dying every year from opioid overdoses, there’s an urgent need for scientists to develop alternatives to potentially addictive opioid painkillers.
