Today’s headlines:

  • Despite warnings and preparations, mass protests did not erupt this weekend at the state Capitol building in Springfield.
  • The annual Champaign County Martin Luther King Junior Countywide Celebration was held Sunday – virtually, due to concerns about COVID-19.
  • Two of Illinois’ 11 regions became eligible to reopen indoor dining over the weekend, as they fell to the state’s lowest level of coronavirus mitigations.
  • Champaign County reported two deaths related to COVID-19 over the weekend, bringing the total number of deaths linked to the virus to 97. There were 125 new COVID-19 cases in the county over the weekend.

In today’s deep dive, llinois is now a year into cannabis arrest expungements. Some counties have wiped away those records, while others are still working through the process.
