Today's headlines:

  • Though more than 2,000,000 Illinois residents are now fully vaccinated against the coronavirus, Governor JB Pritzker is warning the state’s recent uptick in other COVID metrics could put a pause on reopening plans.

  • Professors at the University of Illinois hosted a vigil Friday to honor the victims of the Atlanta spa shootings.

  • A survey out this month by the American Psychological Association says that three in five adults have struggled with weight during the pandemic. At the University of Illinois, the concept of body positivity has taken on a new urgency. 

  • Over the weekend, Champaign County health officials added another 76 cases to the COVID-19 case count. There are nearly 300 active cases in the county and nine county residents are hospitalized with the virus.

In today's deep dive, the Illinois Department of Human Services is funding several new initiatives aimed at raising awareness about problem gambling --and helping people access treatment. We learn about two of these initiatives from Illinois Newsroom's Christine Herman.
