We're sharing a special rebroadcast of our hourlong show from the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. First, we talked with the museum's executive director about how they're celebrating Illinois' Bicentennial. Also, we learned more about the official bicentennial beer from Hand of Fate Brewing Company and heard music from the "Dulcimer Guy," Mike Anderson. Plus, we talk with the some of the participants in the museum's art contest. 

We’re sharing our special broadcast from Lincoln’s birthday, when we broadcasted from the Abraham Lincoln Library and Museum with history, art, and music - including an important milestone - Illinois’s bicentennial.

Alan Lowe is the executive director of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library & Museum and he joined Niala to talk a little bit more about what the museum is doing to celebrate the bicentennial. We also spoke with Sam Wheeler who is our state historian.

Back in February, we were live from the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum to celebrate Lincoln’s birthday.

This year is also Illinois’ 200th birthday - and what better way to celebrate our state’s bicentennial and the Fourth of July than with a nice, OFFICIAL, cold one?

Hand of Fate brewing company in Petersburg just outside of Springfield produced a beer called 1818 Prairie State Farmhouse Ale that was chosen as the official beer of the state’s bicentennial.  Mike Allison is Hand of Fate’s founder and head brewer. I asked him just how one goes about making a beer to represent Illinois:

One of the activities that the museum planned for the bicentennial was was an art contest for students of all ages from schools all over the state. The theme? Happy birthday Illinois.

We were joined by Genevieve Kaplan who is the director of education at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. Betsy Dollar also spoke with us, she was one of the judges and she is the executive director of the Springfield Art Association.We were also lucky enough to talk with a few of the contestants. Lily Ha is in sixth grade and came in as a runner up in the 6-8th grade category. Brayden Buxton is in third grade at Owen Marsh Elementary School in Springfield. Hannah Handzo and Hannah Hadley are both seniors at Woodland High School.
