April 18, 2025: State lawmakers move to protect the Mahomet Aquifer and clarify law over Cannabis

The finish line is on the horizon for this year’s spring session of the Illinois General Assembly. Lawmakers faced a key deadline last week to get bills passed out of one of the chambers. Among the stories discussed:
- Ban on carbon capture near Mahomet Aquifer wins unanimous approval in Illinois Senate
- Bills addressing cannabis odor in vehicle, safe gun storage pass Senate
- Native American mascot ban clears the Illinois House, heads to Senate
In national politics, a lot has been happening even with Congress on break. Illinois’ congressional delegation has been making the rounds. US Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) even showed up on Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show.”
