Congressman Eric Sorensen on government shutdown, bailout for farmers

Emily Bolinger/WGLT
The federal government shutdown is now in its second day with no end in sight. Illinois Congressman Eric Sorensen represents the 17th district, which starts in Moline and Rock Island, goes east to Rockford, and then reaches south to Peoria, Bloomington-Normal and Macomb. He's served the district since 2023.
Sorenson gives his take on how federal workers in Illinois are being impacted by the shutdown as well as agricultural policies impacting farmers. All three of Illinois' Republican members of Congress -- Representatives Mary Miller, Darin LaHood, and Mike Bost have been invited on the program, but have not given any response.
