DeKalb Valedictorian Makes History

Nina Mitchell, DeKalb Valedictorian
Nina Mitchell has an impressive resume. She graduated this spring from DeKalb High School with a 4.549 GPA. She was also president of her class all four years. And is the first Black woman to be valedictorian at her school. But she’s not the only one in her family to graduate top of her class — her grandmother Pearlene Carter was valedictorian of her class of 1959 in Coldwater, Mississippi.
The 21st is joined by both generations.
