It’s been two weeks since President Trump ordered National Guard soldiers to Washington, D.C. — and two months since he did so in Los Angeles. Now, he’s talking about doing the same thing in Illinois-citing crime rates in Chicago.

Over the weekend, the Washington Post reported that the Pentagon had been planning for such a deployment for months. But then, on Monday, Trump seemed to pump the brakes, saying he wanted Governor Pritzker to ask for help. The governor declined to do so in a press conference on Monday.

A former leader from the Illinois National Guard, who was also a former Illinois congressman joins the program to provide context about the situation.
