Five years ago today, a mob stormed the United States Capitol committing many violent acts. Since then, there have been congressional investigations, criminal prosecutions, and a whole lot of debate about what that day meant for American democracy.
Laura K. Field has been studying what led up to January 6th — not just the rally and the riot, but the ideas behind “stop the steal” in particular and the MAGA movement in general.
She is a political theorist who spent years in conservative academic circles before writing about how that universe has evolved under President Trump. Field discusses her new book, "Furious Minds: The Making of the MAGA New Right."
