A group calling itself Fair Maps Illinois is making yet another push to amend the Illinois Constitution so an independent commission draws state House and Senate districts. That would be different from the way it’s currently done, when the lawmakers who have the majority can draw the district boundaries themselves.
The former mayor of Chicago, Lori Lightfoot, joins the prgram to talk more about how this would work, what’s behind the idea, and more. She is one of the prominent former public officials backing the plan. Lightfoot was the 56th mayor of the city, serving from 2019-2023.
