Gov. JB Pritzker’s 2022 State of The State And Budget Address
Today we brought you special live coverage of Illinois Governor JB Pritzker’s combined state of the state and budget address. With a winter storm dumping snow on Springfield today, the governor did not make his speech before a joint session of the Illinois General Assembly. He delivered a “webcast” from the Old State Capitol building in downtown Springfield.
After the speech, we were joined by NPR Illinois Statehouse reporter Hannah Meisel and Amanda Kass, who’s the associate director of the Government Finance Research Center at UIC. We also brought you reactions to the speech from two lawmakers. The governor called for tax reductions — suspending the 1% tax on gasoline, blocking an inflation-increase to the gas tax, and offering a property tax rebate of up to $300.
