Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza (D) joins The 21st show to discuss the state’s growing rainy day fund from $48,000 to nearly $2 billion, which would cover 10 days’ worth of state operations.

The conversation expands to the state’s $140 billion unfunded pension liability, to the debate of adding new programs to the 2024 fiscal year budget and learning how the state's unpaid bills reduced from $16 billion to a little over $1 billion.
