Illinois moms’ influence on the Beanie Baby craze
If you were a kid in the 90s or had one in your life, you probably lived through Beanie Mania—spurred by the cloth, pellet- filled stuffed animals known as Beanie Babies. The craze has ties to a group of northern Illinois moms, who helped Beanie Babies become the must-have collectors item of the late 1990s. The story of Beanie Babies is the subject of a new documentary called “Beanie Mania,” which is now available on HBO Max.
We were joined by the documentary's director to talk about the craze, its Illinois connection, and more.
