How To Raise Confident, Self-Sufficient Kids

Most people who came of age in the 1980s or earlier had a fair amount of freedom in their neighborhoods. Walking to and from school, biking to the park, renting “Top Gun” for the 27th time from the local video store.

But for many parents today, that level of freedom seems crazy! How can I be sure my little ones will look both ways before crossing the road? What will happen if they get hurt? What if they get abducted?

Our guests today say parents and children do not have to be prisoners of their fear. Leonore Skenazy has just published a new, second edition of her book, Free-Range Kids: How Parents and Teachers Can Let Go and Let GrowChristina Hillsberg, meanwhile, spent the first part of her career as an analyst at the CIA, and along with her husband, Ryan, translated that knowledge into a unique parenting style. Their new book is License To Parent: How My Career as a Spy Helped Me Raise Resourceful, Self-Sufficient Kids.
