Federal health officials say with new variants of COVID-19 now in the U.S., getting more people protected before the spring is more important than ever. The first shipments of the COVID-19 vaccine arrived in Illinois in mid-December. Since then, more than 981,000 doses have gone into arms across the state; however, we still have a long way to go — less than 2% of the state’s population has been fully vaccinated.

To discuss where Illinois is in the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine and plans going forward, The 21st was joined by the Director of Illinois Department of Public Health.

Guest:

Ngozi Ezike, M.D., Illinois Department of Public Health Director
