January 5, 2024 Illinois News Roundup: Migrant crisis in Illinois
Chicago is one of many so-called "blue-cities" experiencing a migrant crisis, after states such as Texas and Florida began sending asylum-seekers that had previously entered their states to cities deemed "sanctuary cities." As we go to air on January 5, 2024, more than 33,000 migrants have been transported from Texas to Chicago (29,000 by bus and 4,000 by plane). Texas is purposely not telling the city or state when or how many arrivals are coming, which has overwhelmed the city and volunteers.
