In 2018, the Women’s Justice Institute in Chicago convened hundreds of women — including experts, researchers, advocates and those who'd been incarcerated — to form the Statewide Women’s Justice Task Force of Illinois.

The task force, said to be the first of its kind, recently released a lengthy report (web / pdf) examining the incarceration of women in Illinois and outlining a path to reducing the number of women in prison.
