All of Illinois's bordering states have restricted or complete abortion bans, with the exception of allowing the procedure if the mother’s life is in danger. However, these same states make it difficult to determine what is enough to qualify the mother’s life as being in danger. As a response, many doctors in those states refer women with high-risk pregnancies that are too complicated for clinics to Illinois Hospitals.
