Pandemic Nutrition And Food Insecurity

The American Academy of Pediatrics wrote that ‘school closures have had a substantial impact on food security and physical activity for children and families.’ The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted many disparities and structural inequities, one of them being food insecurity, especially for young people out of school. 

The 21st speaks to the assistant professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Community Health at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign about the impact that the pandemic has had on young people’s relationship with food.
