Reporter Roundtable: COVID Wrecking Local Government Finances

Jernej Furman

As of September 7, 2020, the state is reporting more than 250,000 known cases of COVID-19. The effects of the global pandemic have gone beyond health: thousands upon thousands of Illinois are still out of work, and entire sectors have been unable to recover, like the entertainment, travel and convention industries. That in turn has had a significant negative effect on local government finances in Illinois.

To talk more about that, The 21st is joined by a political columnist for Crain’s Chicago Business and an NPR reporter in Illinois for our weekly reporter’s roundtable.

Guests:

Greg Hinz, political columnist for Crain’s Chicago Business

Mary Hansen, reporter, NPR Illinois
