Reporter Roundtable: Omicron and the approaching holidays

As the New Year approaches, things are starting to seem like a repeat of another year we’d all hoped was past us: 2020. Cases are surging again, major league sporting events and concerts are being canceled or postponed, and some schools on the East Coast are going virtual again. On Thursday, Illinois reported the highest rise COVID-19 cases this year. What’s unfamiliar though, is the omicron variant. It’s spreading rapidly here in the U.S. and has now been detected in 45 states, including here in Illinois. To talk about what this variant could mean for the holiday season, we were joined by a correspondent from NPR's Science Desk and an investigative reporter from the Chicago Tribune.
