Illinois nickname is “The Prairie State,” going back to the vast grasslands some of the earliest European settlers found when they arrived in the early 1800's. While traveling through Illinois today, you’ll find there's not much prairie left.

That is the subject of the latest State of Change, an annual television special from Illinois Public Media. It explores Illinois climate and how it’s changed over the years — and what might be in store for the years to come.

This year’s installment explores prairie preservation and restoration. State of Change airs Thursday at 7:00 p.m. on WILL-TV and other PBS stations across Illinois. The host of State of Change joins the program.
