Last week, while America was focused on the outcome of our presidential election, scientists in Europe announced that humankind passed another benchmark for our warming planet. 2024 is not only the hottest year on record, but it seems we've already passed the 1.5 degree Celsius threshold.

Among the consequences we've experiened from this is that in Illinois, the climate is becoming more hospitable for invasive species allowing them to adapt, thrive, and edge out our native flora and fauna. That is the theme of this year's State of Change, the ongoing public television documentary series produced by Illinois Public Media.

IPM's environmental reporter and the main presenter for State of Change joins the 21st today to give a preview of this year's episode.
