Ulysses S. Grant started out as a clerk in his family’s store at the beginning of the Civil War, and quickly rose to the rank of commander of the entire Union Army. Today on The 21st, we’re going to discuss Grant’s life, including his time in Illinois, where he worked in his father’s leather goods business in Galena. We’ll also delve into the lasting impact he left behind.
