New Podcast Focuses On Ripple Effects Of Rural Hospital Closures

Over the past decade, more than 100 hospitals in rural parts of America have closed. At least 20 of those hospitals are in the Midwest including one in Streator, Illinois — about 50 miles north of Bloomington. In some cases, that hospital may be the only one in town. And the ripple effects are enormous — affecting not just access to health care, but also the town’s economy and even identity.

A new podcast from Kaiser Health News and St. Louis Public Radio explores the fallout after a small town loses its hospital. Click here for the podcast "Where It Hurts."
