Why are our electric bills so high?

It's a fact of life that electric bills tend to be higher in summertime, when air conditioners are working around the clock to give us some relief from the heat and corn sweat that can make summer on the prairie so miserable.
But this summer, families and businesses across Illinois have been getting bills that are even costlier than normal.
