Supplemental (Non-Vacancy Specific) Outreach/Recruitment Activities Undertaken by WILL/Illinois Public Media during reporting period 8/1/24 – 7/31/25.

Internship Program and Participation in events or programs by educational institutions relating to career opportunities in broadcasting.

The News and Public Affairs Department at WILL/IPM offers several experiential opportunities for University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign students. For the period, July 2024-July 2025, IPM News hired 24 students. Three other students prepared news content that aired on WILL radio as part of a Department of Journalism class at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. The Robert Endres Internship winner work on a daily morning news podcast. Two students were funded by the College of Media Mark Brandt Fellowship. The students produced general assignment stories. One student was funded through a partnership with the Humanities Department at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He coordinated a public engagement event for our public radio talk show team. Lastly, another student was funded through the Backlund Charitable Trust, which funds environmental TV reporting. They produced a segment for our annual TV special 'State of Change.'

We collaborated with our college Unit, The College of Media, to host a resource fair for current and prospective students to relay information about student opportunities within Illinois Public Media. These were held on 9/21/24 and 4/12/25 in our television studio. On September 9th, 2024 – both the Director of Broadcast Operations and the Director of News and Public Affairs spoke to the Media 100 class at the College of Media about opportunities in broadcasting and media at the station and will continue to do this every year.

All search committee members and hiring managers must take Office of Access & Equity’s Diversity training within three years of serving on a search committee. These provide training to management level personnel as to methods of ensuring equal employment opportunity and prevent discrimination.

On 2/12/2025 the Employee Learning and Organizational Effectiveness (ELOE) group on campus provided training and an information session for WILL staff, supervisors, and managers. ELOE supports professional development programs, supervisory and management courses, seminars, and online learning opportunities.

On March 4, 2025, each member of the station attended RJAA 2.0 Training - The Racial Justice Allies & Advocate Training is presented by Diversity & Social Justice Education in conjunction with partners from across Student and Academic Affairs. For more information, contact DiversityEd@illinois.edu.

Illinois Human Resources requires all employees to take annual diversity training and annual harassment training.
