Illinois Issues: The Impasse And The Damage Done

Democratic leaders in the legislature and Gov. Bruce Rauner appear to be close to a deal to approve some funding for social service providers, higher education, capital construction and state operations. The proposal would also fund K-12 schools for all of next fiscal year. But the plan can’t erase the destruction caused by the state going for a year without a budget.​​

Budget Impasse Taking A Toll On Area Social Service Agencies

One of the biggest casualties of the year-long budget impasse in Illinois has been social service agencies that receive funding from the state. Sue Grey is the president and CEO of the United Way of Champaign County. Illinois Public Media’s Brian Moline spoke with Grey about the effects of the budget impasse on social service agencies in the area.

Judge Orders PTSD As Part Of Illinois Medical Cannabis Program

A Cook County judge ruled Tuesday that Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder be added to the qualifying conditions for Illinois' medical marijuana pilot program within 30 days. The ruling stems from a complaint filed by Army Veteran Dan Jabs of Urbana. The judge said Illinois Department of Public Health Director Nirav Shah violated agency rules, and violated Jabs' procedural due rights process.
