Three days after a part of a group had to be removed from the courthouse by Champaign County Sheriff's Deputies, Sheriff Dan Walsh has announced that no protests will be allowed inside the courthouse or sheriff's office. The 4th District Appellate Court Monday denied requests for a stay of the ruling that threw out a state law that denied property tax exemptions to Illinois hospitals based on their charity care. Those requests were sought by the Carle health system and Illinois Department of Revenue. Carle and Presence Hospitals may file a lawsuit as a result.

Four unions have reached an agreement with company heads to end the lockout at the Clifford-Jacobs steel forgings plant, north of Champaign. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. The plant opened in 1923, and employees told the News-Gazette's Tom Kacich that it should function for another 100 years.
