On America’s Independence Day, it seems proper to celebrate two conductors who did so much for American music: Serge Koussevitzky and Leopold Stokowski. Koussevitzky promoted the music of Aaron Copland, and Stokowski recorded the film music of Virgil Thomson. On Classics of the Phonograph, Saturday at 11 am on WILL-FM., we will hear the first recording of Copland’s ballet music for Appalachian Spring.
