Antonio Janigro
In 1953, the famous Italian cellist Antonio Janigro, in the town of Zagreb in then Yugoslavia, now Croatia, started a chamber orchestra titled “I Solisti di Zagreb,” in English, “The Soloists of Zagreb.” Playing largely the music of the Baroque and Classical periods, this group successfully toured internationally, and made many records, especially for the Vanguard label.
On Classics of the Phonograph, Saturday at 11 am on WILL-FM, we will sample some of their better-known records.
