David Oistrakh

By John Frayne

The great Russian violinist David Oistrakh was a part of that vanguard of Soviet musicians who, in 1955, came to America and lessened the tensions of the Cold War with the Soviet Union. Oistrakh's reputation preceded him in the U.S. and his November, 1955, debut proved that he was indeed one of the greatest violinists of his time. On Classics of the Phonograph, Saturday, October 18th at 11 AM, we will hear samples of his superb musicianship.
