In 1946, the famous Hollywood studio, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, decided to sell records. Initially, the records were highlights of MGM musicals, but in 1951, the MGM label started to issue classical records.
On this week's Classics of the Phonograph, Saturday at 11 am on WILL-FM, you can hear some of those issues, particularly a recording of Shostakovich's Piano Concerto No. 1, with a famous pianist, Menahem Pressler, longtime member of the Beaux Arts Trio, as soloist.
