Serge Diaghilev
Serge Diaghilev was highly successful in commissioning ballet music for his Russian Ballet. The music by Igor Stravinsky stands out, but also, a large number of other composers worked for Diaghilev. Among them were Francis Poulenc (The Coquettes), Serge Prokofiev (The Fool), and Manuel de Falla (The Three-Cornered Hat). Music from these three ballets will be heard on on this week's Classics of the Phonograph, Saturday at 11 am on WILL-FM.
