Symphony of the Air
When Arturo Toscanini resigned from NBC in 1954, the NBC Symphony was disbanded, but the members of this orchestra decided to continue, under the name "Symphony of the Air." This group then continued giving concerts, under many conductors, but particularly Leopold Stokowski, and taking part in many memorable recordings. After some years, the orchestra was disbanded, but they had fought a good fight.
On this week's Classics of the Phonograph, Saturday at 11 am on WILL-FM, we will hear some of their recordings.
